I think it is the forums and other high PHP loads. Try opening walmart or target and watch how things crawl.

Yeah the 505 and 525 are or were originally aimed at portable mice. The 510 was aimed at home use.

I do not think I have small hands for my typical US avg height but I find so much stuff too big. Game controllers mice etc. >_> Example that gamidas mouse was too tall in the palm area for me and too long past that so it was hard to push about with the fingers. I tend to mouse with my forearm against the table and move the mouse with the wrist and fingers.

Yeah Amazon is full of bullshit ratings. Ever since they allowed or set up that promo for review shit. People get free shit to review often they know shit nothing about the genra or product. Then add in spoofed reviews and ratings. If you dig around you'll find the same typos or same use of bad English from multiple accounts. So I have started reading all the bad reviews only.

I'm tall and I have big hands. I've always liked XBOX controllers for their larger size.

yup hated em for the same reasons 5' 11" so I was always a fan of the psx one everything was where it should be vs all those fudgy floaty analog sticks. Also types of gaming was more into ones that used a dpad and none were better short of a snes for the digital d pad. Well except maybe the Neogeo cd systems controllers.

it ran on micro switches inside vs the spudgy nipples, and those were always the failing of many controllers as the material was very important nad many companies never clued to that fact and ended up making some utterly useless d pads. Sonys had a really stiff nipple with depth so you felt it depress and allowed those crazy combos. They also had a centering pole while many just had the pad as a siolid peice sitting on a + patterned rubber bit.

For classic style (D-Pad) controllers, I have an officially licensed Sega Genesis controller by Retro-Bit that has a USB plug. Sega entered into a partnership with Retro-Bit to make both Genesis and Saturn controllers, and they look and feel just like the originals. I bought one with the USB plug and another with the plug needed for the Genesis and compatible Genesis clones.

Analog sticks are good and in fact necessary for some games, but not for any classic style or classic games that weren't designed for that kind of input.

my fave old mouse was Logi Mx518 . corded. real soft chord.
I like higher dpi , as I can get away with minimal movements and somehow makes it easier to use even with my nerve damage. it was optical / laser mouse . all laser mice are also optical now.
both laser and optical mice use CMOS sensors to take 'picture' of the surface and return patten.

it comes down to the led or laser diode as the light source. non-laser or IR led is a simple surface return and is a very stable and reproducible per sample.     A laser is well, even the ones made for mice gonna have some drift, so the dpi of the CMOS should be higher. that's due to how the laser works and how it reacts with the surface as it can penetrate a small bit before reflecting. some laser mice can calibrate their intensity based on the quality of return( on the fly ). handy for low power situations. lasers allow for a lower power type of CMOS sensor to be used.

ir led optical mice are physically more precise in movement in all speed ranges if using the same CMOS sensor.
they only illuminate the surface of even fabric mouse pads or plastic-like special print pads.
the laser will actually have a diffraction a distortion in the returns from the non-hard surface like fabric. because of that the laser mouse can appear to jitter or be unstable if the dpi or the refresh of the CMOS is too low. Also why some mice have a calibration too in their app for a given surface.

I have helped people use old mice CMOS as cameras for DIY pick and place units.

anywho re mice: https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-mouse-myths-busted/

as far a keyboard I use  a new-ish daily driver
Corsair K55 and my mouse is a Scimitar Pro  ( yeah both have RGB, that only serves to remind me what profile is running )
it has 6 dedicated macro key on left. It's membrane but I don't really mind it as much as I thought I would. It is a no ghosting fully non-blocking keyboard. I could press every key at once almost LOL

one curious thing is it has 2 sets of profiles, one set flashed to the device and one set when plugged into a  computer running iCUE. the mouse is the same way.
the mouse is a special case . my logi 518 spoiled me for switchable dpi at the mouse. for gaming or for other work, it made my f'ed nerves not a problem.
the Scimitar pro  has a set of dpi you can cycle through, but it also has a 'sniper' mode that when a button is held it goes to whatever dpi you set for 'sniper'. but ... buttons. it has a 12 button keypad for the thumb. LOL
and yeah i use em. I have not set up a blender profile ... yet but coding I have them set to a bunch of common things. so much so i have not set much into my keyboards macro keys.
though between the mouse and keyboard any key is re-mappable or able to be a whole macro.

I keep telling myself I'm gonna make my own gamepad ... but always end up just buying one.

I don't know, there are things I DIY, but a game controller isn't one I'd even consider. (see attached)

Depending on what kind of features and quality you're going for, you can get USB game controllers starting under $10 and going way up into the stratosphere in pricing. I personally find the XBOX 360 controllers (official ones) to be sturdy and comfortable, but the same could be said for Playstation controllers. I also like these:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/PowerA-Wired-Controller-for-Xbox-One-Blue-1508493-01/296542128

I have a blue one just like that, but it didn't have the cord, that I got for about $10 where I work. Naturally, the missing cord thing wasn't an issue for me. ;) We had a black one in our clearance/open box/damaged packaging section yesterday. If it's still there today, it may be coming home with me. I use the blue one for my XBOX One, but I wouldn't mind one for my computer too.

Prime_8

yeah i was thinking of a xbox one as well.

I have some old Xbox clone ones, they are ugh ok. GTAV has some poor code in it where if an xbox clone becomes unplugged the game wont recognise it if you plug it back in , however, something in the legit xbox controllers never has that issue. its stupid and lazy use of direct input i recon, possibly even on purpose if R* ever took some $$ form MS to keep it that way. most other games( i own and have encountered ) don't give a fig and actually handle devices properly. It's like 5 lines of code to 'fix' it . LOL

but one thought for a DIY was simply 3d print out a new chassis for an existing controller, but no real value in that rite now.

what i nee dis a device that with le don either side of my monitor can alert me to where sounds are coming from being single side deaf really screws up first-person games.

i think there are apps for hearing impaired but i have not found many and some won't work was games think they are cheating wear.

for now, im set to mono sound on the whole system.

scifidude79

Yeah, my XBOX 360 controllers are only the official ones. The white one I've had since before I had a 360, I bought it specifically for playing Windows games as I was tired of Logitech controllers not lasting very long. Then I started using that controller for the 360 because I was tired of the right stick "drifting" with the wireless controller that came with it. I don't have that issue with the wired controller. Then I bought another black official 360 controller for the Steam Machine, though I rarely use it. I played through Batman: Arkham Knight on my desktop using that controller, and I found I had an easier time controlling the Batmombile than I did when I played the game (not all the way through) on the PS4.

That's what I was going to suggest.

Quote from: scifidude79 on Jul 30, 2019, 11:25 pmThe drafts are pissing me off too. When it saves the draft, it (sometimes) momentarily takes my cursor out of the text box. I'm usually in the middle of typing when it does this. It's really annoying.

This is still an issue and it's still annoying. SFM did that to me earlier too. If these damn sites are going to save drafts, it should be a process that's totally in the background.

SFM is a separate script so it is easily banned/blocked.
ublock code
forums.scifi-meshes.com https://forums.scifi-meshes.com/applications/vanilla/js/autosave.js script blockSFM is the easiest to fool with as everything is on the sigular host and is broken up in ways you can easily snoop about and change crap. I do ban the fontausome shit though. Loads of tracking crap from there.

And UGH used some dielectric (a type of silicone grease) on my spacebar and now it is too lubed. Hate rattly space bars.

What I hate about the xbox outside of the meathook size is the screwed up control placement. Sony at least kept that linear with the dpad above and analogs below. Overextending the thumb to that upper analog is ugh. Sega controllers were OK, I had at one time a huge box of OG controllers for the genesis got em for like 5$ 150 or so of them unopened. When I moved from Seattle I just left them in the attic. Shit is probably still up there.

Dunno what all the horseshit about IR and laser is about. Laser I find tracks on everything but glossy opaque surfaces. While the LED or IR mice will only work on a rough surface or a evenly patterned one Hence why early optical used a special pad with a HEX pattern on it (SUN MICRO). If it is a loose weave like pants or a couch they shit huge sticks of fits. As for all the jitter nonsense, I have had no issue with laser, optical will jitter all over or even do weird shit with lint, dust, and hair. I have used laser mice for over 16 years now and not experienced anything mentioned.
Pick nits and semantics all you want in the industry OPTICAL refers to a visual light led while laser refers to an IR laser.

Worst experience I have had is with older wireless mice, if you have too many(same brand/make) the wireless signals will cause glitching. (older 505s before the unifying receiver) This is like on the same pad so a 8" circle. Occurred with 3+ mice. Not likely a situation for most out there.

Oh forgot the mention of IR led. I forgot the 525 is a "advanced" optical which is a IR led vs a proper laser. I do not notice much of a difference between them. Maybe less battery life.  if one would pick nits the laser has maybe 5mm lift vs the IR which is closer to 1 or 2 cm.

What one really needs is REPLACEMENT feet. Have to open the mouse to clean gunky wheels and all the YUCK they pick up but that means pulling feet. 525 is also gross in that regard as the feet are really rough like and do wear surfaces a lot more.

Looking at m325s (thinking these are the replacements for the older 315s) for my mum atm as she says the 525 is to large lol.

Ah man you can tell these 325s are women's mouse all the reviews are "cute" gush gush dawwww and in photos are all women's hands. Tempted to get one for myself too in some ghastly color, least then when I grab it unseen I know it is another systems mouse. Always grabbing the wrong mouse atm. All different colors but same shapes.

now time ot yank this failing hdd whatever # ADD is it has gone up from ABA through all sorts of hex(guessing) numbers over the last 3 days but it is red in crystal so welp time to rip it out before the 3rd pagefile on it causes a system hang. Fucking crypto miners have hdd prices like 2X or more the prices they should be at 150USD for a fucking 4tb meh rating drive. And what is all this bullshit marketing speil NAS, Surveillance. etc probably just slightly different firmwares to degrade em for these supposeave ratings and man would think 5400rmp and 5900rpm would have gone extinct by now. fucking 40mbps internal speeds sigh.

scifidude79

I have a black 325. Yes, it's tiny.

MadKoifish

HDD has ADD

and yeah I should move to the plain version of the app. Keep forgetting to go dl it.

Prime_8

yeah you have no uncorrectable errors yet so your data is still 'ok' but that bugger might be on a fast path to the scrapper.

Prime_8

I have a job interview for a promotion today in 30 min. It's for my Boss's job. ( I'm not sure he knows about it )

He's retiring soon, anyhow but he has kinda done some stuff and gotten in a bit of trouble, so I think they might be gonna 'retire' him. He was supposed to retire 2 years ago. But yeah he's been ticking the client off.

I would say poor guy but he causes my wife and me lots of trouble over the last 3 years.

So in a few days, I should know the outcome.

Prime_8

Uh, got the job, the office called me in. asked if I could just come right away. Small interview with the  CEO and ops manager.  Done, I had the job.

They called me at times throughout the morning asking me questions, and that's when they wanted me to come in for an interview, but  They kinda had their mind made up last night but needed to get some answers on the record.
