When it comes to cars, if I had one, I'd be one of those people who keeps mechanics shops in business. I have no clue what part is what and absolutely no desire to learn.

Prime_8

I used to be that way.  Requiring a car for work/life as it is spread out here and low in the $$$ department results in necessity driving my ingenuity to do whatever it took to keep my last rig on the road.

in retrospect, it was a rolling death bomb waiting for some less ironic time to go off. hade breaks fail 2 times that could have killed me. fuel filler had failed, spilling gas over hot brake drums ( could have been a fireball ).
dropped one side of its large gas tank while driving. it was a saddle-shaped tank that straddled the main rear driveshaft. so its centre was resting on the main shaft  :P

yeah, I bodged that bugger back to life many times.  thing is its engine was fine once I gave it TLC. It just needed a new everything else.

so the new rig has 2 problems, an exhaust leak that at times make sit sound like it was over-tuned by a teenaged speed freak. LOL,
and of course I find my self easily doing 80 in places that are only 50 without effort or notice. could result in  much tickets :P

My God, Scott!  How on Earth did you stay alive?

Wow!

dad asked me that after drivng Ravi for 5 min .

Once I drove 25 km  without main breaks from town to his place only down shifting and park break onece :P

Fear and  panic are not your friend in a vehicle, but until you have experienced driving without breaks  when you expect them it's hard to describe .  You learn other ways to slow your rig quick . 4WD cars kinda have easier ways to slow .  but still  first time is quite shocking l. the 2nd time is massive PITA .
knowing how parts of your rig work can also help you detect big issues early on .

but old cars ..  are a gamble if you forget to inspect  some things regularly .  extended service routines are more for safety of the vehicle than continued longevity .

random shit happens too , like if you  have the  head of you oil filter get hit by some debris exposing unpainted can . A month later  due to rust  it blows open and oil all over your front tires while you are going up hill at speed.

Up here in Kannukistan we are used to ice driving and oil feels very much the same as slippy slush.  Hell of a mess , and all the angry pixies in the truck make all the pertinent indicators flash and light on your dash look like x-mas again .

>> i suppose even my first drivers education lessons tought us to drive on ice and with simulated damaged vehicles.

that first day you hydroplane at highway speed ...  the road/tire noise is gone and creepy silence and wind noise takes over ( some cars rev rpm high as ther is no tire friction on drive wheels now). turning your wheels does absolutely nothing ... and you thank your lucky stars the road ahead of you is strait so that you can gradually reduce speed to effect a landing.
listening for the distinct bumps of your tires breaking through the water layer they are planing on, counting for at least 3 or a few big good ones.
Much the same sensation as a small plane making a perfectly smooth landing .
now you can breath and  call your self an idiot for speeding in the rain .

^ i was lucky / stupid enough to encounter that a hand full of times as a teenager.

why im alive ?  dumb luck .

i twisted my ankle a few weeks back , and i just kinda re-twisted it yesterday .. hurts like a bugger today . :P

However !  that  is  still not taking the shine off of today . new Mobo and Ram is ready for pickup at the post office.
I used a bit of tax return .  my current mono is 1 generation behind my CPU and it shows sometimes .

so i will  move my cpu to the new mobo , use the new ram.  and the old mobo will get the old R3 1200 back in it and keep its 16GB of ram and replace my wife's rig .

so i may be offline this weekend a bit . :P

parts haz arrived!

I have some work ahead of me now. lol

if all goes to plan I have ryzen rigs at the end of this :P

Congratulations, Scott!  I know you can get it done!

Nice! New components are always fun. Ryzens are nice processors, you definitely need a nice board to go with them.

ozylot

Cool, getting a new rig is always fun. I recently got a used Surface, I did a doodle this afternoon...

That's really cool, Ozy. :)

Ha, that's great. I like the touch screen on them.

Mostly done some Cable managements and correction of my homebrew RGB controller .

This mobo has RGB and can drive the  CPU cooler's RGB fan > :P

lost to so . I just noticed I lost 2 chassis USB ports, but gained some new high-speed flavours.
