Yeah, this is something that I've wanted to do since I made my first ship in Truespace.  I had the idea ... AFTER I built the model.  I realized that it would have been easier if I built the ship and THEN cut in all the windows and such.  That way I could make any version I wanted.  So, I'm doing that this time.  I'll make all the parts, then save a base version and then start laying out windows, ports, and such.  Then I'll texture.

I usually like to texture as I go, but this is the exception to the rule.  I may even texture before laying in the final details.  Hm.  I have an idea.

I ran off a few test renders to see if the shapes are close.  I tried to match (or come close) to some reference photographs I've got.

That looks fantastic, the shapes look great to me.

I used to do the pilot version(s) when I did a model, but I don't do that anymore. It's definitely easier to plan that as you go, especially before you do the windows.

Yeah, I meant to do pilot versions before, I just never got around to them!

I got the rear end section of the warp engines.  It took me two attempts.

The last image is an orthographic side shot.

Yeah, those end caps are a pain in the ass. Yours look great, though.
