Quote from: Shaw on Jul 11, 2020, 11:47 amWell, a lot of the decals are based on rubbings of the model's surface, which I can scan into my computer to get the best shapes. But I still broke up a ton of elements to make sure that each worked right. The decals are mostly transparent, so layering isn't much of a problem.

The name and registry graphics are taken from the decals for the original studio model. I had high res scans of the original sheet which I brought into Photoshop to clean up and then scaled them to my model. So these aren't like my TOS decal graphics which were a complete redrawing of everything (this isn't that deep a study).

I made some more progress. The primary hull has most of its windows now, but it wasn't different enough to make it worth more photos. But here is some progress on the secondary hull...

I also put together one of the spare nacelles to test how my decals for them would work (again, these are based on rubbings from the model).
Shaw, that is quite simply amazing!  This is excellent work!

Thanks a ton for the feedback guys.

Chris and Dean, I know both of you guys have covered this general subject before with great results, so I appreciate both your experiences here.

Chris- Oddly enough, when I search my server at home I couldn't find any of your TMP images. Lots of TOS and Phase II images, but no TMP (which I hadn't started really looking into until recently, so not much of a surprise). Could you point me to a gallery of your work on the subject?

Thanks.

So I made a little more progress, and took a few more shots...

The deflector assembly might not be the final part. I had reworked the kit part to have a deeper bowl (same thing I did on my Phase II Enterprise), I made a mold of it and used the rest of my clear resin (which had yellowed). I might try it again with a new batch of resin and tenting it blue.

This just keeps getting better and better.

This looks quite simply amazing, Shaw!  Wow!

Thanks a ton guys!

And here is some progress on the warp nacelles...

I'm gaining a massive appreciation for modellers who wallpaper their models and make it look good. Everything on this model feels like the proverbial painting yourself into a corner. Trying to handle the model in any way seems to risk damaging the decals.

Oh well, live and learn.

Well, you certainly deserve it.  This looks terrific!

From where I sit, this looks quite spectacular!  I've seen people mask and paint their models like this, but I've never seen anyone do it with decals.  I'm amazed!

Thanks guys!

Not a lot of progress, mostly just curious how it looked with most of the pieces in place.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys!

So, my health has taken an unfortunate turn and I need to put this model on ice. Rather than store it in a box, I've tacked the primary hull on with a drop of super glue so I could just leave it standing. Here is another quick shot of the model...

Sorry about it being blurry, it is hard to keep the camera steady while in pain... and this was the clearest of a half dozen shots.

The model looks great, but I'm more concerned about your health.  Are you going to be okay?

Don't worry about the picture quality Shaw. What matters is your health.
Look after yourself, we are not going anywhere so when you are able to get back to work we will be here.
