Yep, I'll wait until the seasons of Picard and Discovery are out, then do the free trial and binge.  Works fairly well.

It worked great for Discovery season 2 and the Short Treks. I had more time over the weekend, and five days left on my trial, but nothing to watch. They don't have any of their classic shows on there, just their newer stuff, which I don't care about.

scifieric

Oh wow.  I thought they had advertised that they had their classic shows available, including the original Star Trek!

They did, but they don't seem to anymore. I could swear they had Mission: Impossible on there too, when I was on two years ago. I can't find that stuff anywhere. Though, I'm also on the Amazon Prime version of it, so maybe that makes a difference, as Amazon has all of those shows available with Prime. But, I still don't need to pay for CBS All Access, since I can watch that stuff on Prime.

scifieric

Oh wow.  There goes any reason to really subscribe.

I would say I don't know why in two years CBS hasn't gotten exclusive rights to those shows back, but I can guess. It's probably because they make more money from those broadcast rights than they do from All Access.

You hit the nail on the head Chris.
It also most likely when they signed the deals it was for long term 5 to 8 years maybe more?
If CBS wanted to pull them back, there is most likely a clause in the Contract where CBS would have to pay whoever they sold it to, to break the contract.

it's funny watching some of the networks making direct to home streaming become a thing, like each cable network trying to figure out how to jump on the streaming bandwagon.

Right now I'm stoked to see what the new season of Rick and Morty is like in Nov.
Amazon Prime is still working well for us here.

What's stupid is all of the networks are trying to jump on the bandwagon and add these streaming services. It seems like a good idea, until you realize that a lot of people use these things to get rid of cable an save money. That's all fine and dandy and was pretty easy to do when you were dealing with a handful of services. If you stacked up Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime (just the video) you're at about $30/month for a lot of content, which isn't bad. Well, add CBS All Access, that's another $6 with ads, $10 without (plus taxes.) Plus whatever Disney is going to charge for theirs. Plus whatever else you want to get. The point is, by the time you pay for about eight to ten of these things, you're at about $80 to $100 a month. So, is it saving money? So, all of these companies starting their own services just leads people back to paying the kind of money they were paying before. Though, those services need to have good content to keep subscribers. That's why CBS All Access is struggling. Another one where I couldn't find much interesting content beyond what I wanted to watch was DC Universe. But, by all accounts of what I've been seeing that it's going to have, there's no reason Disney+ won't hit the ground running next month.

Now, even with the costs, the obvious advantage to streaming is that you can watch stuff on your schedule. I paid $135.91 to Spectrum yesterday for cable, phone and internet. The cable is about $50 of that and I get about 100 channels, including local channels. Of course, a lot of those channels don't get watched, which is another thing people complain about with cable. And, when you're home, there may not be stuff you want to watch on. You can watch some stuff on demand, but you're limited by what's available.

So, I think streaming is a great idea, especially with the kind of hours I work. However, these companies need to realize that there's a limit to the amount of these things people will pay for.

I guess where are lucky over here in the UK.
We have two main streaming services, Netflix and Amazon Prime. This cost about £15 per month for both together or £7 each. (Amazon Prime includes all the Prime services.)

Then you got NOW TV, which has 3 different Packages, Sports, Entertainment and Movies.
Each Package cost about £30 a month each. All these are, are the Sky Channels streamed to your TV though there own box instead of having a Satellite bolted onto your house. (Though going threw steaming route you missing out some services that normal Sky customers have, however you not locked into a year contract. With NOW TV, it more like a top-up service.)

Then we have the main TV channels with their own sub-channels having their own steaming service.
Each of these are free, however the content is removed after two months. It more of a catch up service.
For this we have Iplayer for the BBC, 4OD for Channel 4, ITV HUB and Demand Five.

Also most homes in the UK have either youview, Freeview box or a smartTV, all of which can record live TV to be watched later.

The only Extra we have to pay for over here in the TV Licence.

That's one thing I like about the War for Cybertron line, and what got me back into collecting. They're so close to the G1 designs, especially in their robot modes. Of course, Megatron turns into a tank these days, but that's been a thing since GI Joe VS Transformers right before the launch of G2. Besides, that makes more sense than him turning into a handgun. That Springer is the best looking Hasbro Springer I've ever seen. He's a full on triple changer, as you'd expect him to be, and really well done.
