Probably not much to explain on this one other than it is a scene from one of the novels. I am sure plenty had guessed with me building a TOS Miranda. The Tholian ships were a coincidence and were quite handy.

Doug hasn't asked for animation on this has he?

No, because he wouldnt get it. It would likely take me 3 to 6 months to do a 20sec animation. Almost all of this is post composition and I would have to restructure and pay for assets for animation. IE explosion animations, lightning or static not to mention touchup detail work.

Single pass renders took up to 40hours at 8k just for the stills. Multiply this over all the passes I did for it and yeah. No way.


oh man I would so love to block that annoying LOADING notification that crawls out on this site. Its too fast for me to get my element tool to zap it.

There was a reason why he asked you and the others a few years back to do a short one, but I can't remember what it was for.

It was when he was active on youtube and had the blog so he promoted the SOTL work a lot more back then and did a segment with a collection of our scenes turned into cut video. I think the Youtube stuff or that other site viemo or whatever still has it up. I have my copy on my yt page.

Unless you're getting paid for it, animation is only worth ot if it's a labor of love. Otherwise, it's just a lot of work and a huge PITA.
